At Dunelm, technology is at the heart of making life easier and more comfortable for millions of customers. From streamlining online shopping to empowering their colleagues behind the scenes, their tech teams are constantly exploring new ways to work smarter — without losing that signature Dunelm warmth.
One of the people leading the charge is Lauren Corderoy, Software Engineering Manager. Lauren talks about her work, her teams, and why innovation here feels as natural as rearranging your favourite room.
What does your role involve day-to-day?
Lauren: As a Software Engineering Manager, I work with engineers across multiple cross-functional teams responsible for a range of Dunelm services – from our Made2Measure offering to our supplier platforms. No two days are the same! One day I will be supporting someone’s career development through coaching or mentoring, and the next I’ll be leading a Chapter initiative to improve team culture. I really enjoy the variety and the opportunity to make an impact both at the team and organisational level.
What makes working at Dunelm Tech different?
Lauren: There’s a strong customer focus across our tech teams at Dunelm – whether that’s someone browsing the website or a colleague working at the tills. Our teams are encouraged to experiment, innovate, and continuously learn, which creates a really energising environment. Beyond the technical, Dunelm is an inclusive place to work where you can be your authentic self and know you’ll be welcomed. Our colleague networks play a big role in shaping that culture, and I’m proud to be a co-chair of our Gender Equity Network, helping drive meaningful change and support across the business.
How do your teams collaborate?
Lauren: Our teams are cross-functional, with engineers, quality specialists, product managers, business analysts, delivery leads, and UX designers all working together. Everyone needed to solve a problem is right there in the room (or on the call), which makes collaboration more effective and thoughtful. This setup helps us build solutions that genuinely work for both our colleagues and our customers, because we’re able to consider different perspectives from the start and make better-informed decisions.
What kind of impact can an engineer make here?
Lauren: A huge one. Our engineers are hands on with designing, coding, testing and deploying the software that powers Dunelm. The systems we build touch every part of the business, so even small improvements can have a ripple effect across stores, supply chain and customer experience. Seeing something you’ve built make someone’s day easier is incredibly satisfying.
Finally, what would you say to someone thinking of joining?
Lauren: If you’re curious, collaborative and like solving real problems, you’ll fit right in. Dunelm Tech is growing fast and there’s room to shape your career while shaping the future of retail technology.
If you’re looking for a place where your tech skills can thrive in a supportive, innovative and inclusive environment, Dunelm could be your next home.
