Succeeding with customers

At the heart of NatWest Group is a clear ambition – succeeding with customers. It’s what drives us to build enduring relationships with the businesses and communities we serve across every region of the UK – and our people are the foundation of how we do this.

Our performance makes clear our strategy is working. However, in an ever-competitive and fast-moving landscape, we have sharpened the focus of our priorities going forward around:

  • Disciplined growth – sustainably growing by building stronger and deeper relationships, whilst attracting new customers.
  • Leveraging simplification – moving forward from bank-wide simplification, maximising our technology and capability to deliver customer growth more efficiently and effectively.
  • Active balance sheet and risk management – actively managing our balance sheet and risk as a trusted partner to customers, delivering growth and sustainable returns.

The bank that turns possibilities into progress

Through a clear focus on our strategic priorities we are building a more agile, integrated and technology-driven bank, powered by future-fit capabilities and guided by three core behaviours:

We start with customers
We raise the bar
We own our impact
We aim to drive positive impact through the core of our business. Whether we’re supporting customers in managing their money, planning for the future, or building better, more resilient businesses, our long-term growth is built on understanding and responding to their priorities, ambitions and the challenges they face. We know the success of customers and the UK economy is reciprocal with our bank’s success. By actively managing economic, social, and environmental impacts, we can support sustainable customer growth and create long-term shareholder value.

Find the role that’s right for you

We know the skills our people need in the future will be different from those of today. We’re passionate about supporting our people and providing them with the capabilities to succeed.
We’re building a relationship bank for a digital age. Our customers expect to be able to interact with us in person, or by using technology. That freedom carries on to our colleagues. We offer different types of working arrangements to allow the best in collaboration, and to give flexibility where it’s needed. Some of these arrangements depend on the type of job you do, and some of them depend on you and the type of flexibility you need.

Flexible working
Whether you’re a parent, a carer, a student, or just have a busy lifestyle, we know it’s not always easy to commit to standard working hours. So we offer a range of flexible working arrangements that will let you balance your life between home and work.

Note that in some jobs, we might not be able to offer flexible hours for business reasons. We’ll always accommodate flexible working where we can, so speak to your hiring manager or recruiter about which options work for you and for us.

Your benefits, your choice

You know what you want better than we do. So we’ve designed our reward package with that in mind. On top of your salary you’ll get retirement funding and, depending on your job, benefit funding too. That flexible package gives you the freedom to choose the benefits that suit you and your family.

Inclusion

Understanding the diverse perspectives and needs of our communities helps us support our customers to the best of our ability. That’s why we strive to be an inclusive business that gives all our colleagues and customers the opportunity to turn possibilities into progress.

We recognise the value of a gender balanced team. It’s vital to our success to make sure everyone has the encouragement, inspiration and opportunity to take their career with us as far as they want to.

As an inclusive employer, we aim to continue to deliver a better LGBTQ+ colleague and customer experience. With insight, education and support, we are working towards being an LGBTQ+ employer of choice.
To build an inclusive bank, we’re positively addressing the needs of disabled and neurodivergent colleagues and candidates.
We’re committed to providing an inclusive environment where all colleagues have the same opportunity to progress in their careers, regardless of their socio-economic background. Our goal is to continue to drive for increased socio-economic diversity.
It’s important that the diversity of our team reflects the diversity of our customers. It helps us to have greater empathy with them and a deeper understanding of their needs.

Learning and development

Learn what you want, how you want

We make it easy for our colleagues to get curated learning that sets them up for the future they want. From bitesize on demand courses, to events and professional qualifications.

Choose learning by skill, theme, or business area. Go deeper into the skills you have already, or build brand new ones. Work through the heaps of in-house content, or use the links to outside sources to go further.

Employee-led networks

We support a variety of employee organised and led groups – known as ‘Employee Led Networks’. Our networks are sponsored by members of our Executive Committee and are made up of volunteer colleagues who play a key role in delivering, raising awareness of, and influencing our bank-wide inclusion strategy.

Ashley Clifford

Head of Early Talent

I was drawn to the Banking and Finance sector because I had a family member who had previously worked for NatWest and spoke really highly of it (sheer luck). They were an inspiration to me and so that sparked my interest, and the more I learned, the more passionate I became about the impact the Bank has on people’s everyday lives.

The achievement I’m most proud of from my graduate days is the relationships I built and how they still support me most days now. I found some of my best friends through my programme and that is very special to me.

The legacy I’d like to leave is that the possibilities for your career are endless. There’s no one “right” path, and as long as you’re motivated, learn and show up as the best version of you determined to do the best possible work then you should never underestimate the difference you can make.
