Our story

As a student in London in the 1980s, Ismail Ahmed needed to send money home to his family in East Africa. Every transaction meant a long journey to an agent who charged a small fortune in fees. In 2010, he decided to try to make a difference in an industry that supports millions of people exactly like him.

With support from his co-founder Catherine Wines and Richard Igoe, Ismail set up WorldRemit, with the simple aim of making sending money as easy as sending a text message. We’re making payments simpler for over 4m customers worldwide, in over 90 currencies. 

Ismail’s vision, to help people like him improve the lives of those they care about, is at the heart of everything we stand for today. 

We’re growing rapidly…

Now, in 2021, led by Breon Corcoran, our CEO, there’s almost 1,200 of us focussed on solving for our customers. About a third of the team are based in our London HQ, but we also have offices in Poland, the Philippines, the USA, Australia, Singapore, Canada and Belgium – making us truly global. 


We celebrate our diversity, and in a recent survey our colleagues confirmed that everyone is treated with dignity and respect, regardless of gender, race, sexuality, age, scoring 8.4 out of 10.

We’re making payments simpler for customers worldwide, in over 70 currencies. We’re disrupting the market with a digital payment platform and an enduring ambition to make sending money as easy as sending a text message.
