Police Digital Service

Empowering policing and law enforcement

The Police Digital Service (PDS) is the UK organisation responsible for coordinating, developing, delivering, and managing digital services and solutions that enable UK policing to safely harness technology to improve public safety.

Funded by policing and the Home Office, PDS works with law enforcement organisations, private industry, charities, public bodies, and government to deliver digital services and solutions with policing, for policing.

Ours is a team of experts in commercial services, technical assurance, data, digital transformation and innovation, with unique experience in policing and national programme delivery. Together with our public and private sector colleagues, we are driving several ‘in-flight’ national programmes.

Our vision

By 2030, the Police Digital Service will deliver the capabilities to create a more digitally enhanced police service whose workforce can more fully exploit data and technology to inform improved decision-making, strengthen operational effectiveness, drive value for money and most importantly better safeguard and protect the public.

Our mission

Our mission is to provide a centre of expertise to design, create and deliver national digital and information systems for UK law enforcement, efficiently and effectively, meeting operational and strategic objectives.

Working for Police Digital Service

Our aim at the Police Digital Service is to support UK policing to keep people safe, get more from technology investments and make better use of public money. We are always on the look-out for great talent to help us achieve this. Please check out the vacant positions below and get in contact if you would like to join our team.

Benefits

We know that work/life balance is essential to the wellbeing of our employees. That’s why we offer a range of benefits to our staff:

Flexible working hours

We trust you to do your job and we appreciate that life doesn’t always fit around a 9 to 5 workday. We operate core hours of 10 to 4, Monday to Friday, to allow flexibility to choose your own start and end times whilst completing your contractual hours over the working week. Please note, for certain roles within the National Management Centre the core hours mentioned will not apply as working hours are based on specific operational need.

Some roles require set shifts, this will be discussed with you at interview if it affects the role you are applying for.

Working from home

Most of our roles are remote, but this is always indicated in the advert.

If you work from home all or some of the time, we will provide you all the equipment you need to get set up. We just ask that you have good internet connection and a private, quiet space which allows you to do your best work.

Pension

There’s a choice of two pension schemes to meet your needs: Nest or St James’s Place. You’ll also have access to pensions advice via Collins Wealth Management.

We offer double matched contributions up to 12%, so if you put in 6%, we will put in a 12% employer contribution on top of this. You can opt to pay in more if you like.

We operate a salary sacrifice scheme to allow you to benefit from National Insurance Contribution savings. You can opt out if you’d prefer not to have a pension at all.

Health and wellbeing

You’ll receive an entitlement to paid sick leave for physical & mental health from day one. This starts at one month’s full pay, right from your first day with us.

Our Employee Assistance Programme offers a 24/7 confidential advice line for health, legal & bereavement support (and lots more).

After successfully completing your probation period, you’ll receive access to the Help@Hand health and wellbeing app which includes remote GP appointments, mental health support, physiotherapy and much more.

Holiday

We offer 28 days’ holiday a year plus bank holidays – and we want you to take and enjoy them!

You’ll receive an additional day after completing three years’ service, and another after five years.

You can choose to opt out of the government set UK bank holidays and instead use these days, like your annual leave, to take on dates that are important to you.

You can also purchase an additional 5 days leave a year to top up your annual leave balance.

Family

You’ll receive 26 weeks paid maternity leave, and 6 weeks paid paternity leave as long as you meet the statutory qualifying period.

Upon return from family leave parents can work 80% of their hours while receiving 100% pay for the first month.

After successfully completing your probation, you’ll benefit from life insurance from Unum of four times your annual base salary, up to £550,000.

Community

To support you and the community you live in we offer one paid day a year to attend volunteering events.

Diversity, equity and inclusion

We are committed to equal opportunity for all and will not discriminate on any grounds. We encourage applications from people from the widest possible span of experience. We particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) candidates and people with disabilities.

Jennifer Roderick

Strategic Cyber Threat Intelligence Lead

Anyone who ever speaks to me, knows just how much I love my job – it’s trying to stop me talking about it that tends to be the problem. The reason I love my role, primarily is due to the impact factor that I get from everything that we. We might think something is the smallest patch or mildest concern but this could be the difference between a force operating or them being unable to access services or operate digitally. We run by the motto that ‘we protect policing so that policing can protect the public’ and this drives us to work harder every single day.

The cyber threats policing face every single day are dynamic and exceptionally fast moving which means that every single day at work is different. There is no time to ever even consider being bored that’s for sure! Continue reading>>

Learning & Development Manager

Every day is different! That is part of the appeal. From the outside, Learning and Development (L&D) is about facilitating training sessions but this is a tiny (albeit rewarding) part of the role. Research, planning and creative thinking as well as project management take up the vast majority of my time. But the biggest part of the role, the part that is interwoven in everything I do and is the deal breaker in terms of success and failure is connecting with people, *actually* listening to them and building relationships. L&D is for the employees and so can only work if this is never forgotten! Continue reading>>

We know that flexibility matters – whether that’s part-time hours, compressed schedules, or job sharing – and we’re happy to explore what works best for you.

We understand that many talented individuals, especially women, may hesitate to apply unless they meet every requirement. If this role excites you and you believe you could make a difference, we warmly encourage you to apply – even if you’re not sure you tick every box.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss how the role could work for you, please reach out to us at recruitment@pds.police.uk. We’re here to support you.
