Waracle

Waracle creates digital products trusted by millions of people.

We are a team of over 300 strategists, designers and developers expert in creating digital products for enterprise clients across Financial Services, Health, Energy and Public Sector.

We simplify complex technology challenges by deploying distributed teams into our client’s businesses from our offices in Edinburgh, London, Glasgow, Sofia and Dundee.

Why Waracle

We are an inclusive, inspiring & developmental home for some of the most talented people in our industry. Our mission is to create opportunities for our people to build careers they’re proud of.

We’re focused on growing in a way that adds value to our people’s lives and clients’ futures, transforming trajectories and creating conditions for excellence across our Communities of Practice.

We also believe that people do their best work when they enjoy the journey. That means creating an environment where everyone can bring their ideas to the table, feel heard, and have the confidence to take on new challenges. This is particularly important to us when it comes to supporting women in tech – helping create opportunities for women to develop their skills, step into leadership, and build lasting careers in an industry that needs their voices and perspectives.

Women of Waracle is an internal initiative created to bring women across the business together to share knowledge, support one another, exchange experiences, and create a stronger sense of community. We’re also working towards a more balanced gender representation across our teams, with a goal of 50% gender split at the first-stage interview to increase representation throughout the pipeline.

Above all, at the heart of it, we want people to be able to do great work, have fun, and go home happy.

Waracle way of hiring (DE&I)

At Waracle, hiring is never about filling seats, reciting corporate scripts, or checking off boxes. We take a human-led, tech-backed approach where every new team member helps raise the bar of what we can achieve together.

We prioritise proven craft intuition and adaptability over traditional pedigree titles, seeking out genuine specialists focused on making a tangible impact on real client problems. By designing inclusion directly into our sourcing and maintaining radical transparency from day one, we build an unbiased environment where everyone gets an equal opportunity to thrive.

To put this into practice, we use a wide variety of talent sources specifically to support underrepresented groups in tech, while maintaining a self-set challenge for a 50% gender split at the first-stage interview to increase representation throughout the pipeline.

Recruitment journey

Our recruitment journey is built around four clear stages designed to eliminate surprises and respect your time. Your very “First Hello” begins with a friendly initial pre-screen to discuss motivations, salary expectations, and accessibility needs. The Craft Showcase stage replaces high-pressure whiteboard coding with a 2–3 hour take-home exercise, allowing candidates to demonstrate their real-world skills. While you get 100% real human interaction, we encourage using Generative AI if it enables you to ‘Work in the Open’ and walk us through your thinking. In the Talking Impact stage, we dive deep into client challenges, values, and level-specific competencies, backed by prepared panels focused on fair, objective evaluation. Once onboarded, our Welcome Ritual ensures a seamless transition into internal communities, dedicated channels, and office buddies, pairing new joiners with clear performance goals from their very first day.

Values

Raise the bar

Raise the bar

We take pride in delivering high-quality work and seeing the impact it has. We are curious, proactive, and always learning; continuously improving ourselves and our skills. We strive for excellence in everything we do. We see every opportunity as a chance to raise the bar – for Waracle, our clients, and for our own professional growth.

Bring others with you

Bring others with you

We succeed together: whether we’re leading, supporting or learning. We lead with empathy, working as a unified team to understand and appreciate other people’s perspectives and
experiences.

This commitment to one another empowers everyone to do their best work and reach their full potential. We build trust, celebrate every contribution, and create a space where everyone has the opportunity to shine.

Make it count

Make it count

We have big goals, but we don’t try to do everything. We know there are a limited number of hours in a day, so we make every one of them count. We accomplish this by regularly pausing to assess the potential impact of our work, prioritising what matters most and then acting with purpose.

Work in the open

Work in the open

We are transparent in how we think and act. We seek and share context, give and accept feedback, and communicate openly. We take full ownership of what we deliver as individuals and as a team, and hold ourselves accountable. This openness and accountability gives us the clarity and purpose to deliver at our best.

Enjoy the journey

Enjoy the journey

We love what we do and find the fun in each day, celebrating our shared successes and the satisfaction of doing hard work well. We’re in this together, creating space for connection,

Lynsey Brownlow

Head of Design

Coming from a background in Product Design, I’ve carried forward a hands-on, systems-led approach, focusing on designing connected, end-to-end experiences. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to dive deep into the inner workings of multiple organisations across a wide range of industries and global markets – getting under the skin of their services, products, and operations. I’ve worked with consultancies such as Sopra Steria, Kin + Carta, Cohaesus, and AND Digital – bringing me full circle, back to Waracle to lead our Design practice.

Senior Developer

I’ve been working as a software developer for more than seven years. My career started at HackSoft, which played a huge role in shaping me as a developer and as a professional. It was where I built much of my foundation in software development, learned the importance of writing quality software, and had the opportunity to work alongside people who constantly challenged me to improve.

Over the years, I also had the opportunity to grow into a leadership role, eventually becoming a team leader responsible for a team of around 10 people. That experience taught me a lot about communication, collaboration, mentoring, and understanding that being a good developer is about much more than just writing code.

Chair of our Spirit of Waracle committee

When Screenmedia joined Waracle back in 2024, the Spirit of Waracle immediately caught my eye. It felt like the soul of the company, not just a corporate responsibility programme, and I knew I wanted to be part of it.

After a year as Treasurer, stepping into the Chair role felt like a natural and exciting next step. Emma Coutts left such a fantastic legacy, and I felt ready to take on the challenge of leading the initiative. For me, it’s about nurturing a culture where we can all give back to the communities we live and work in, and make an impact together.
